What better way to start the day than to having breakfast at one of the bakeries in Vienna?
It is well-known that it is the most important meal of the day – breakfast. And if you so desire, you do not have to create your own breakfast in your CheckVienna Apartment but you can go out for breakfast. Some eating establishments in Vienna have established themselves as breakfast venues while some bakeries offer a great breakfast, also at weekends and on public holidays.
Breakfast at Joseph’s
“Joseph Brot vom Pheinsten” is present in Vienna at several locations. The bakery is a wonderful place to go not only to buy bread and rolls but also to have breakfast. In particular, you can enjoy an amazing breakfast in the branch on Landstraße Hauptstraße in the city’s third district, which resembles a restaurant rather than a bakery. The branch in Führichgasse is a must for all bagel lovers as here you will find many different types of bagels to choose from. And you can sit here comfortably and simply enjoy the city centre.

The Felzl bakery has four branches in Vienna and in every branch there is a great selection of breakfasts to choose from. The branch in Kaiserstraße is particularly popular as it is located within walking distance of the lively shopping mile, Mariahilfer Straße. The branch in Pilgramgasse is also highly frequented due to its location at a traffic hub of the city’s public transport system. The cakes, pastries and coffee are, of course, always fresh. There are a variety of breakfasts to choose from and vegetarians are also well catered for here.

The famous Krapfen from Groissböck

The Groissböck patisserie is famous, above all, for its Krapfen (a traditional Austrian pastry similar to a doughnut with no central hole, made from sweet yeast dough, with a marmalade or jam filling and usually icing sugar on top), which time and again are ranked as the best in Vienna. The Groissböck branch in Meidling, right next to the underground station, is much more than a normal patisserie. It not only provides fresh bread, rolls and cakes every day of the week but also offers a wide range of breakfasts – everything that your heart desires for your first meal – from small to large – to start your day.

Breakfast in a family business
For more than 120 years, the RITZ bakery, run by its owner, has been situated in Alsergrund, the city’s ninth district. You can enjoy a wonderful breakfast in a pleasant atmosphere and in the company of many regulars. Particular value in the RITZ bakery is placed on the freshness of its goods and this becomes evident when you taste them. The coffee here is also a particular highlight because what would breakfast be without an aromatic coffee? We recommend that you try traditional Austrian Semmerl (bread rolls) and Kipferl (a yeast roll formed into a crescent shape) accompanied by an exclusive roast from Daniel Moser.
