Summer in Vienna – the temperature is rising and the sun is shining. What could be more refreshing than a delicious ice cream? Last summer, we already told you about some of the best ice cream parlours in the city. This year we would like to present a few more top ice cream parlours, which you simply have to try out on your next visit to Vienna.
Vanella – ice cream and espresso from Naples
The ice cream parlour “Vanella – bar del gelato” will be found on Nussdorfer Straße. Here in the 9th district of Alsergrund, there is a real Italian feeling. Various types of ice cream cones can be enjoyed while walking and the small outdoor area is ideal for lingering a little longer. But the interior is also well worth seeing as it is furnished in a very modern manner. A particular highlight is the different varieties of ice cream brioches. For this speciality, ice cubes are served on brioches with, for example, fresh fruit, nutella, fruit syrup or caramel. And, of course, whipped cream is a must! For fans of real Italian espresso and coffee, Vanella is also “the place to be”. In addition there are imported organic lemonades as well as Italian beer.

When all of Vienna is waiting in a queue in Rotenturmstraße, then genuine Vienna insiders know what is going on. Because here people are waiting on an ice cream cone from Eis Greissler. In the meantime there are even four parlours in Vienna as well as several in different federal provinces, for example, in Graz, Linz, Klagenfurt and Salzburg. In the last few years, Eis Greissler has definitely advanced to an ice cream institution in Austria. The ice cream is organic, only natural and carefully selected ingredients are used and you will find exclusively regional and, above all, seasonal, ingredients in your cone. For their chocolate ice cream, the chocolate comes from the Styrian company, Zotter, which is well-known far beyond the Austrian borders. In addition, there are flavours such as Sachertorte, almond chai or butter cookies. If you patiently overcome the queue, you will definitely not be disappointed.

You can definitely notice a certain ice cream trend in Vienna. Above all in summer, of course! In addition to the well-established ice cream parlours, there are many new ice cream makers and ice cream sellers. Such a new spot is Leones Gelato. The friendly and modern premises alone will win you over already on your first visit. Also in this ice cream parlour, the motto is: fresh ingredients and no artificial additives. And the various flavours taste just as delicious. From the classics, such as strawberry to exotic flavours like gianduja. However, Leones does not only sell ice cream – their coffee and cakes are also delicious. The special is a southern Italian speciality: granita. This iced drink is a blessing, especially on hot days.

In Vienna, if anyone is talking about Italian ice cream, Zanoni & Zanoni springs immediately to mind. The name stands for an institution in the capital and has done so since 1971. The most popular parlour is located at Lugeck in Vienna’s 1st district. This location has an outdoor area, which is well worth a visit, as here you can relax while enjoying one of the many ice cream specialities. However, also those who are not ice cream lovers will not be disappointed at all. For example, you can try a genuine Italian espresso with two or three profiteroles, one of their specialities.
