Most Instagrammable Places in Vienna
If we are to believe social media experts, Instagram is the social network. The checkvienna.com Instagram account has existed for some time now. Also in Vienna, there is a continually growing community of Instagrammers. And of course, tourists take thousands upon thousands of photos from and of Vienna and post these on Instagram. However, for the best and coolest photos, you also need suitable photo spots. Here we would like to provide you with a small but fine selection.
The Riesenrad (the “Giant Wheel”) in the Wiener Prater
It is one of the landmarks and one of the most frequently photographed sights of Vienna: the Wiener Riesenrad in the so-called “Wurstl Prater”. A fun park, which the Viennese like to visit as much as tourists. The highlight in the Prater is the Riesenrad and it is a wonderful subject for the perfect Instagram post. Regardless of whether you capture the Giant Wheel from below, in its full splendour, or whether you take a bird’s eye view photo of Vienna during a ride in one of its gondolas. Even for those who aren’t fans of Instagram, the view of Vienna is simply fantastic and unique!

The Vienna Hofburg (the “Imperial Court”) – Where once Sissi and Franzl lived
Only few buildings in Vienna exude the glamour of the Habsburg Empire as much as the Vienna Hofburg. Two of the most famous and well-known Habsburgs lived here: Emperor Franz Josef (“Franzl”) and his Empress Elisabeth (“Sisi”). The Hofburg has quite a few highlights to offer for the perfect Instagram picture. The full splendour of the Habsburger palace and the political centre of power of the monarchy can best be captured from Heldenplatz (Heroes’ Square), including impressive equestrian statues. But you should also visit the area around Michaelerplatz. You can not only capture the hustle and bustle there, but also a Roman archaeological site and the famous Viennese Fiaker (horse drawn carriages).

The Donauturm – Landmark of the Donaustadt
It is one of the highest buildings in Vienna: the Viennese Donauturm (literally, Danube Tower). From the top, you have a marvellous view of the city, as well as of Vienna’s environs. Embedded in one of the largest green areas of Vienna – the Donaupark (Danube Park) – the Donauturm presents itself as the ideal location for the perfect Instagram post. From the outdoor observation platform, you can in fact get a panoramic view of Vienna. The amazing view towards Stephansdom (St. Stephan’s Cathedral) and the Vienna inner city – with the sparkly blue Danube in front – is highly recommended. Any picture taken here simply has to be good. Don’t forget, the Tower itself is also great as a photo subject for Instagram!

Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna’s 13th district, Hietzing, is, with St. Stephan’s Cathedral, one of the most frequently captured spots of the nation’s capital. This is self-evident and more than justified as the area offers numerous beautiful photo scenes. You can not only capture photos of Schönbrunn Palace itself, but also the famous Gloriette with a view of Vienna, the large zoo and the beautiful Palace garden with all its highlights, plants, gardens, the Palm House, waterfalls and sculptures. And in the midst of all of this Schönbrunn Palace, the magnificent residency of the Habsburger. Seasonal markets, such as the Easter market as well as a famous Christmas market, take place in front of the Palace and these are also great motives for social media.
