Hiking in Vienna on the many hiking routes in the city
Our Vienna is not only urban but the city also has much to offer for nature lovers and hiking fans. You can best marvel at the magnificent play of colours in autumn on one of a total of eleven city hiking routes in Vienna. The starting points of the hiking routes, which are all well signposted, can easily be reached by public transport and there are also many forest play parks, viewing points and possibilities to rest. We have compiled a small overview of the prettiest hiking routes of the capital for you.
City hiking route 1 – Enjoy the view of Vienna from Kahlenberg
City hiking route 1 is one of the hiking routes with a fantastic view. The ascent will take you through wonderful vineyards, passing traditional Heurigen and cafés, to a wooded area high above the city. Here you will be rewarded with a wonderful panorama of the city and the Danube.
Tip: The city hiking routes in Vienna are also clearly marked on the mobile city map. Use the location determination function and you will always know exactly where you are. Likelihood of getting lost: very slim!
City hiking route 1
Starting point: Tram D – end station, Nußdorf
Length: 11 kilometres
Walking time: approx. 3.5 – 4 hours
City hiking route 4 – to the Jubiläumswarte
City hiking route number 4 is rather a short and easy hiking route and, therefore, is perfect for the whole family. The route will take you through the Dehnepark – with adjoining forest playpark – to the Jubiläumswarte (Jubilee Observation Tower).
When the weather is good, you can even enjoy a distant view as far as Schneeberg in southern Lower Austria.

City hiking route 5 – on Bisamberg, childhood dreams come true

City hiking route 9 – a different perspective of the Wiener Prater
The Wiener Prater is a popular amusement park with both the Viennese and tourists. But there is also another side to the Prater! From the central Praterstern to the Freudenau, there is a city hiking route. At 13km, the route is of an average length but it is very flat and, therefore, is perfect for an easy walk for the whole family. The entire recreational area, Prater, also offers a great number of possibilities to stop for a rest and some refreshments to keep you going.

Length: 13 kilometres
Walking time: approx. 3 – 4 hours
A hiking pass for more fun
Are you lacking the necessary motivation to hike? The free hiking pass can help you! For every hiking route that you successfully complete, you can receive a stamp from one of the stamping points. The hiking pass is a wonderful way to motivate children in particular and both young and the not so young can have fun hiking.
Even if you have only three stamps, you can get a silver hiking pin from the City Information centre in Vienna’s Town Hall when you present your hiking pass there. And, the golden pin awaits those who have more than seven stamps. Hiking passes are available from the City Information centre or you can download them online.
