Regardless of whether the Vienna City Marathon, the Women’s Run or the Vienna Night Run – in Vienna there are numerous exciting events for those who love running. However, in addition to these events, you can also discover Vienna at a running pace. The passionate running profi, Running Shritti, summarized this for us in this guest blog. He spent a weekend in Vienna in one of our CheckVIENNA apartments and explored the capital for us while running.

When on a city trip, some sightseeing is a must for most tourists. But what if you are a passionate runner? How can you explore the city? Easy – by running through it. And that is exactly what I did on my short weekend trip in a CheckVIENNA apartment.
Great apartment in a super location

On Friday evening I arrived at the spacious apartment in Erdbergstrasse, in the 3rd district of Vienna. A great alternative to regular hotel rooms. The apartment not only stands out because of its modern furnishings and fittings but also due to its great location, which makes it the perfect starting point for a wide variety of activities.
Early start to Vienna’s landmark

The weather was absolutely wonderful on Saturday morning so I headed out early to explore Vienna. With my running shoes on, I was ready to begin my sightseeing run through the city
. In order to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city centre, my run first led me along the “colourful” Danube Canal and Schwedenplatz towards St. Stephan’s Cathedral, the landmark of Vienna. Before the number of people in the centre increased, it was time for me to “flee”!
Childhood memories in the Prater

I next aimed for the Wiener Prater whose Riesenrad (Ferris Wheel) can be seen from afar. Running alongside the rollercoasters, the carousels, the autodromes as well as the other rides and stands is truly special. And also awakens some childhood memories. At the end of this morning round, I returned to Schwedenplatz, where I rewarded myself with an extremely delicious ice-cream.
A leisurely conclusion

In the afternoon the Ring (a circular boulevard that serves as a ring road around the inner city), which is practically on the doorstep of the apartment, was the next on my running agenda. And in terms of tourist attractions, one just follows on from the next – the Town Hall, the Burgtheater, the Parliament, the Imperial Court and the State Opera. After some refreshment in the form of a huge pizza in L’Osteria, I returned to the apartment to relax and let the day draw to a close in a cozy atmosphere. This was also my motto for the Sunday, before I left for home.
