Emperor for a day – Schönbrunn Palace’s Museum for Children

In the Children’s Museum in Schönbrunn Palace, the focus is on imperial times but with a special emphasis on imperial children. The many activities, in which children play an active role, combine learning with fun. Children can dress up as a prince or princess and learn about the clothes that were worn in imperial times. Children are also given the opportunity to set an imperial table or to play with the toys from this time.
If you decide to go to the Children’s Museum, this can be perfectly combined with a visit to Schönbrunn Zoo. A further highlight is the maze, which is situated in the Palace Park. Although there are no “dead ends”, various puzzles have to be solved – a fun time is guaranteed for both young and the not so young! A perfect opportunity for children to run around and enjoy themselves.
Our Tip: The maze is closed from December until February but there is plenty of time to enjoy its beauty from spring until autumn!

The ZOOM Children’s Museum is situated at the heart of Vienna’s museum landscape: in the Museum Quarter. Children can learn more about diverse subject areas from the world of art, everyday life and science in a playful manner. Nobody will get bored in the play stations and workshops which have been designed specifically for the young ones.
The various areas are divided according to age groups, guaranteeing fun without being too demanding. By nature, children want to ask questions and to touch everything and there are more than enough possibilities to do both in the ZOOM Children’s Museum!

Technology for Children – Vienna Technical Museum

At first glance, the Technical Museum perhaps does not sound as if it is suitable for children – but this could not be further from the truth! For example, children have the possibility to create their own puzzle rally, with various degrees of difficulty, at home. Then the questions and tasks have to be solved through all the exhibitions at the Technical Museum.
A particular highlight for children from the age of two is the “mini”. In this area, which is suitable for children, the young ones can try out and touch everything. Close by is the “mini mobil”, where you can discover everything related to the topic of mobility. Young visitors can, for example, drive on the traffic tracks in various vehicles, work on a ship, dress up as a pilot or astronaut and even fly a plane!

Dinosaurs and more in the Natural History Museum

Hardly anything fascinates children as much as dinosaurs – apart from living dinosaurs! In addition to a life size dinosaur, the Natural History Museum has a huge variety of all kinds of animals on display. But the Museum is also home to a wide range of other interesting exhibitions, such as the world’s largest meteorite collection.
The digital Planetarium is a particular highlight of the Museum. In this dome-shaped area, visitors sit comfortably on chairs and can gaze in wonder at the scientifically correct images, which are projected onto the large inner dome. You have the feeling that you yourself are flying to the moon or exploring Saturn’s rings or even the Milky Way.

As the leading art museum in Austria, the Albertina offers an abundance of artistic variety – also for young visitors. On the regularly occurring Family Sundays, visitors are sure to be inspired by the various exhibits. The ideas so gathered can immediately be put into practice in the atelier.
Especially in the open atelier, young people can experiment with colours and materials every second Saturday. Entry is free of charge and neither previous knowledge nor registration is necessary.
