Der Schweizer is a small shop on Wollzeile in Vienna’s first district (inner city) which specialises in Swiss cheese – run by the owner, of course. And it is precisely this which gives this shop such a magical charm. First class advice and assistance as well as first class cheese. In the warmer months, you can sit in the mini outdoor area where you can try out some of the cheese to the accompaniment of some good wine.

The cheese flagship store, Cheese & More by Henri Willig, in Kärntnerstraße only recently opened its doors in Vienna, in 2018 to be precise. A small but fine establishment which, as regards Dutch cheese, has everything which your heart desires. The focus is definitely on the world famous Gouda in a wide range of variations. In addition to cheese, you can also buy all kinds of practical „tools“ which will enable you to deal with Gouda & co. like an expert!

One of the first addresses which springs to mind when you think of cheese in Vienna is always Pöhl’s Käsestand, which is located at Kutschermarkt in Vienna’s 18th district. This market is well worth a visit, in particular at weekends. And if you do decide to visit, you really should make a stop at Pöhl’s. Here you will find different types of sheep’s cheese as well as cow’s and goat’s cheese. Top quality and a super atmosphere are guaranteed at this local market. And there are also a wide range of snacks and wine on offer here.

A further top address for cheese lovers is Jumi in Langegasse in the 8th district in Vienna. The selection of all types of Swiss cheese is amazing! The team working there do their very best to fulfill the wishes of their customers and, above all, to satisfy the various tastes of customers. Jumi is also well known for a very special kind of cheese: the Belper Knolle
. A cream cheese from cow’s milk which is formed into a cylindrical shape and then wrapped in pepper dust which is perfect for, for example, fresh pasta. On Saturdays, the shop has a stand at the organic market in Langegasse, where you can enjoy a delicious original Swiss raclette sandwich.

For centuries, Meinl am Graben has been the delicatessen of Vienna. Here you will find pretty much everything that is delicious and that you would need for a tasteful evening with friends and loved ones and, of course, also cheese. Meinl has the largest (!) cheese counter in Austria with approximately 400 national and international types of cheese. But, don’t worry, the competent counter staff are happy to help you out. Naturally, you are also able to try out some cheese before you decide which one you would like. The atmosphere at Meinl am Graben is something to experience on any trip to Vienna. On the first floor, there is also an elegant restaurant with a wonderful view of Vienna’s Graben.
