New culinary hotspots in Vienna

A visit to these culinary hotspots in Vienna is a must in summer

Vienna is a world-class metropolis and, as such, is constantly reinventing itself
. This is just as true for art and culture as it is for the city’s architecture. But the culinary scene in Vienna is also continuously developing. New restaurants, bars as well as culinary pop-ups are opening and serving their customers. Above all in the warmer months – in the outdoor season – the capital is simply buzzing!

One of these hotspots is currently the Café Hildebrandt in the Volkskundemuseum (Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art). It is perfectly located in the heart of the city’s eighth district, Josefstadt, which means it is only a short walking distance from the campus of the University of Vienna. In the city centre but still an oasis of peace and quiet where you can while away the hours, chatting in a relaxed atmosphere. Especially when the weather is good, the recently redesigned outdoor area is a perfect place to spend some time with friends.

In addition to different types of coffee and amazing cakes, it’s also worthwhile visiting the new pop-up Spritz Bar, which is small yet fine. The bar is unique in Vienna in its form – aperitivo just like in Italy. Aperol, Campari or Cynar serve as the basis for the Spritz.

For a long time, this was the highest building in the city of Vienna. We are talking about the high-rise in Herrengasse. These times are long gone – after all, the building was erected in the 1930s – but this remains one of the most popular buildings for the Viennese.

And this year, it has become even more interesting because “Freiluft – Die Stadtterrasse” opened its doors in June 2019. This is a pop-up bar on the rooftop terrace of the high-rise building, giving guests a completely new view of Vienna’s inner city. But, apart from the superb view, what makes this so special? The trendy bars in the vicinity, such as Robertos und Heuer, each contribute one drink to the beverages on offer. So, the result is an impressive cocktail menu. The pop-up bar is, however, only open until the end of August!

A few months ago, a pop-up café opened on the Old Danube: the Landtmann Bootshaus. This is a terrace where you can sit on the banks of the Old Danube. Coffee and cakes from the Landtmann Patisserie as well as small (beach) snacks – a wonderful and quiet place to feel good and relax.

And now a restaurant has also opened here. It is spacious and designed and decorated in the style of an English boot house. A perfect location if you want to have more than snacks. The menu has a maritime touch, which is only fitting for the restaurant’s location directly at the water.

Landtmann Bootshaus

Opening times:

In culinary terms, Vienna’s Stadtpark is not exactly blessed. With the exception of the Genussfest which takes place once a year and the Espresso Mobil which serves coffee there in the summer months. But this all changes this year! The well known, trendy bar from Kleinod has opened a branch in the park: Kleinod im Stadtgarten.

This is a summer pop-up which is located right next to the Kursalon Huber. A holiday feeling is guaranteed in the expansive outdoor area with its summery furnishings. The former is a particularly relevant quality in the hot summer months in the city. The speciality here is, above all, a wide variety of gin drinks. But the food menu is also impressive with summery snacks and treats to suit every taste.
