The culinary paradise, Neustiftgasse – lots of traffic but also lots of wonderful restaurants and bars
Neustiftgasse is well known to the Viennese, above all due to the heavy traffic. After all, it is one of the main traffic arteries that connects Vienna’s city centre with the outer districts. And yet a great urban culinary scene has established itself here in recent years and months. In particular, the lower end of the street, i.e. from Augustinplatz to the Volkstheater (the People’s Theatre), is a culinary highlight.
Moby Dick – Cocktailbar & Eatery

The creators and owners of the Botanical Gardens have opened a new, or rather, another restaurant: Moby Dick in Neustiftgasse. Small and intimate as well as being a great cocktail bar. As the name suggests, the interior is dominated by a maritime theme, with great attention to detail. The entrance door has a porthole and the tiles in the bar are designed in a fish-scale pattern.
The cocktail menu is clearly designed and offers many new as well as new interpretations of some classic drinks. However, Moby Dick offers not only cocktails, but also food, which is why it is aptly called cocktail bar and (!) eatery. And by the way, you will not find classic bar snacks on the small but extremely fine menu, which is good and absolutely correct for such an establishment.

Victus und Mili

It feels like Victus und Mili was the first “serious” restaurant of a new generation in Neustiftgasse when it opened a few years ago. Amazing food is served here in a hip and spartan atmosphere. A classic Viennese Beisl (pub-like establishment), with a South Tyrolean touch and a new coat of paint – just as it should be for the seventh district of Neubau.
The menu varies, but always remains small and clear. And because of this, the team can guarantee high quality, as the meals are always freshly prepared with only the best ingredients. This may lead to longer waiting times at lunchtime, but the food is definitely worth waiting for.

Would you like to experience a touch of France in the heart of Vienna’s seventh district, Neubau? If you answer this question with YES, you should pop into Sous-Bois
. First and foremost, the shop is a papeterie. However, workshops on bookbinding and calligraphy are also offered here as well as special workshops for children.
The delightfully decorated café is another highlight in this multi-purpose location. Here you will find French baked goods, many types of French cheese and wonderful coffee.

Veganista and The LaLa

The owners of Veganista, and recently also The LaLa, have played a major role in enhancing this part of the city. The very first vegan ice cream parlour in Vienna is still located in Neustiftgasse, the queues in front of the parlour are usually long but don’t let this put you off – they are truly a sign of the success of the ice cream as well as of how tasty their vegan ice cream is.
Next to the ice cream parlour, The Lala recently opened its doors. Summery, wholesome, healthy and light vegan dishes are served here in keeping with the Los Angeles and Californian healthy lifestyle. During the warmer months, both establishments also have a small outdoor area where guests can relax and enjoy their food.
