A Culinary Paradise – Naschmarkt in Vienna

Focus on the Orient: the culinary scene at Vienna’s Naschmarkt

There is hardly any other place in Vienna where the culinary scene is more exciting, abundant and diverse than at Vienna’s Naschmarkt. The Naschmarkt is located between Getreidemarkt and Kettenbrückengasse and it has become one of the most popular landmarks of Vienna. You will not only be able to buy food from all over the world, but also have a really good meal, drink some interesting beverages and spend a relaxing time here.

Several restaurants at the Naschmarkt have specialised in oriental and Arabic dishes based on the local cuisine. Hummus, pita and falafel are – simply delicious – standard items on every menu. The restaurants mentioned here not only offer culinary highlights, but are also great locations.

The Naschmarkt Deli was one of the first restaurants at the Naschmarkt with a new culinary concept. You can not only enjoy a wonderful meal, but also spend some time here, simply enjoying yourself. Several days a week there is also DJ sound, contributed by well-known local DJs from Vienna, who play music at the Deli.

The hip and the trendy from Vienna meet up to try out the wonderful cocktails and long drinks, and the culinary spectrum ranges from grilled dishes to vegetarian and vegan delicacies.

Just opposite the Deli is the Café DOAN). One of the first ever restaurants at the “new” Naschmarkt. The DOAN is especially well-known for the wide variety of breakfasts it offers – breakfast is even available here until 4 pm. Since 1995, fresh ingredients have been used for all kinds of dishes.

If you aren’t particularly hungry, the sandwiches or the small oriental starter plate are a good choice. For the slightly larger appetite, DOAN serves lunch menus as well as all kinds of baked and fried foods. Vegans and vegetarians will also find a great selection on the menu

NENI at the Naschmarkt has meanwhile become a real “gastro empire”, which has established itself all over Europe in the course of the last few years. The Molcho family runs restaurants in Paris, Berlin, Zurich, Hamburg, Cologne, Amsterdam and even on Mallorca. One can confidently say that it all began here at the Naschmarkt in Vienna, with this one wonderful restaurant.

The NENI has become a trendy meeting place at the Naschmarkt over the last few years. The food invites you to a journey to Israel, the Arabic region, the Caribbean and the USA – a mixture that you won’t find a second time in Vienna – and the restaurant itself also has a special feature; it has a first floor – a novelty at the Naschmarkt. From “upstairs” you can watch the hustle and bustle of the market at your leisure.

There is hardly any other restaurant in Vienna where the culinary worlds are so wonderfully combined as in Orient & Occident at the Naschmarkt. As the name suggests, the cuisine focuses on these two geographical and culinary worlds. It is international and offers all kinds of delicacies, even vegetarians and vegans will quickly find what they are looking for in the menu.

Every visitor is sure to find something delicious for breakfast, lunch, brunch or dinner, or as a small snack between meals. Want an example? From the good old Viennese breakfast (rolls, Staud’s jam, muesli, soft egg and Melange) or an oriental breakfast (tea, bread, olives, honey butter with nuts, humus, sheep’s cheese, burek and falafel) to Turkish lentil soup, baked goat cheese or mini lamb skewers, there is something for every taste.
