Extraordinary Tours through Vienna

Vienna and its architecture, which is rich in tradition, can also offer modern, extraordinary sightseeing tours.

If you go on a journey, you would like to tell others something about it. Nevertheless precisely in the case of a city break, you would like to say something more than that which many know from the classical tourist paths. You should leave the first district, which is swarming with tourists, in order to discover more about the real Vienna and its residents. Here you will find a list with extraordinary tours through the city to help you.

The Third Man Tour – follow in the footsteps of the classical film and delve into the Viennese sewage system

The most well-known – extraordinary – tour through Vienna is the Third Man Tour, which will give you a glimpse into the settings for the world famous film, The Third Man. While you are following in the footsteps of this film classic, you will have the possibility to visit the Viennese sewage system, which is actually not accessible to the public. The tours take place from May to October from Thursday to Sunday between 10 am and 8 pm (always on the hour). The tour is suitable for children from the age of 12.

On this tour, you have the possibility to discover the mystical and unconventional Vienna when you enter the canal system wearing your helmet and carrying your torch. A clear recommendation for all fans of the film classic. Due to the fact that this tour is extremely popular, tickets can only be purchased before the tour starts – it pays to come early. The meeting point is the Karlsplatz-Girardipark in Vienna’s first district, opposite the Café Museum.

Shades Tours Vienna – Discover a side to Vienna which most Viennese do not know

We would of course not want to deprive you of the chance to see Vienna from a totally different perspective in a particularly special city tour. The Viennese social start-up, Shades Tours – Vienna, has developed a unique approach to draw attention to, and to raise awareness of, the topic of homelessness. The approach is very simple: in Shades tours, former homeless people take you through Vienna and you will learn about the city from the perspective of the homeless. This tour is suitable for school classes, companies, associations or interested individuals. Tickets can be bought online.
