A Culinary Paradise – Spitalgasse in Vienna

A special eating hotspot is Spitalgasse in Vienna

Spitalgasse is well known and popular, in particular with students of the University of Vienna. Which is understandable as the university campus is located on the opposite side of Vienna’s new culinary hotspot. You will look in vain elsewhere in Vienna for a more varied collection of restaurants and bars, which have emerged recently here.

The spacious “Home Café“ is currently particularly popular, even if its English name is somewhat confusing as this is an Icelandic café. Although café is also not entirely appropriate. At almost any time of the day, you can go here to eat. From typical Icelandic fish delicacies to homemade humus with bread. The “Home Café” is rather a classical and interesting pub-like establishment at the heart of Vienna’s 9th district.

One of the pioneers in Spitalgasse was and remains the “CoffeePirates”, which has to be one of the best modern coffee houses in Vienna. But here you will not only discover numerous types of coffee, prepared in a variety of ways, but also wonderful cakes and pastries. “CoffeePirates” additionally serve a delicious breakfast. We recommend that you reserve a table as the coffee house is normally very well frequented.

“Tacos Dios” is relatively new in Spitalgasse. As the name indicates, the speciality here is Mexican tacos and there is a wide variety of the Mexican dish to choose from. And, of course, in such a restaurant, the sweet and popular Churros are a must, These are served with chocolate, vanilla or caramel sauces.

Although the part of Spitalgasse which is near the University Campus is only a few metres long, it still offers a number of eating establishments to suit every tast.
