A programme for a rainy day in Vienna

An active programme despite bad weather? Vienna has much to offer!

Bad weather cannot spoil our good mood as there are simply so many wonderful alternatives in Vienna. In addition to the classics, such as a visit to a museum or a relaxing afternoon in a Viennese coffee house, there are several more active options which we can highly recommend for your holiday in Vienna.

Climbing in the heart of the city

Climbing – also known as bouldering – is currently a trendy sport. And, therefore, it is hardly surprising that there are now a few climbing halls in Vienna.

One in particular stands out: the Edelweiss Centre is a must for all climbing enthusiasts but beginners are also well catered for and, due to its location, no long and complicated journeys are necessary to get there. The largest climbing hall in the whole of Austria has a climbing area of over 1,000m² and is centrally located in Vienna’s first district. In addition to muscle strength and the correct grip techniques, this sport also requires special equipment which can, of course, be hired from the hall – so nothing can prevent a spontaneous visit!

Friend vs. Friend – The LaserTag-battle

Despite awful weather, you are guaranteed a fun time with friends at the LaserTag game. In Vienna, there are two great LaserTag arenas.

During the day the hall is an indoor play park for children but in the evening it is transformed into an adventure playground for adults: the Lasermaxx in the Bogi-Park. Here you can jump into a bed of plastic balls, hide in the climbing frames or make good use of the fog effect in order to lie in wait, hiding from your opponents.

However, those who want more action should visit the Lasermaxx Roßauer Lände in Vienna’s ninth district. The arena is a little smaller and is similar to a maze. The experience here is totally different because speed is required in the smaller arena in order to flee from your opponents.

Every visit to Vienna with friends – even when the weather is bad – becomes an unforgettable experience.

This – and much more – you will definitely find at the Beach and Racket Sport Eden. Besides beach volleyball, you can also book courses on beach tennis – regardless of whether you are a beginner or advanced player.

You can play here in both summer and winter. 500 tons of the finest beach volleyball sand guarantees a truly enjoyable experience in the heart of the city. And you can finish off your sporty day with refreshments from the canteen.

Even if you cannot make use of the bathing opportunities in the nearby Alte Donau in winter, you can still get a summer feeling after a day “on the beach“! And finally a tip: we highly recommend that you wear socks as the sand is quite cold!

Speed, action and the smell of hot rubber on asphalt – if you love this kind of thing, you simply have to go to the Monza Kartracing, in Vienna‘s 23rd district. Everyone, whether locals or visitors to Vienna, will feel like a true racing driver on the 500m track.

You only have to hire racing overalls and helmets and you can demonstrate your driving skills in the racy karts. Practice makes perfect, they say and even younger participants are catered for with kids’ karts. And at the end of the session, there is an award ceremony with medals and certificates for the best drivers.

You can end your superb racing day with a visit to the Pit-Stop Cafè, which overlooks the racing track.

All rainy day programmes are suitable for beginners and more advanced alike. But if you would like to have a less action-packed day, you can always pay a visit to one of the exceptional cinemas in Vienna.
