The press world is returning to Vienna! From 10th September, Galerie WestLicht will be presenting photographs from the international press from 2021. In this year’s competition, the jury selected the photo entitled “The first embrace” as the winner. It shows the emotions and hardships of the past months due to the Corona pandemic.
The Albertina, on the other hand, is devoting a monographic exhibition to Franz Hubmann (1914 – 2007), one of the most significant Austrian photo-journalists of the post-war period. Therefore the exhibition focuses primarily on portraits of pioneering artists.
The finale focuses on Gustav Klimt, an outstanding Austrian painter and the best-known representative of Viennese Art Nouveau. One of his most famous paintings, “Lady with Fan”, is now returning to Vienna for the first time in over 100 years. Reason enough for the Upper Belvedere to present the painting as part of a two-part special exhibition until February 2022.
