Experience a Viennese autumn

In autumn, everything becomes quieter again, scarves and hats are retrieved from their summer storage and slowly but surely the first wisps of mist drift over Vienna. Now is the perfect time to explore Vienna’s magnificent parks. First and foremost, of course, the Stadtpark (literally, the City Park), but also various smaller parks beckon you to take an enchanting stroll.
Another favourite tradition of the Viennese in autumn is to drink Sturm. Sturm is a half-fermented grape juice, which is characterised by its natural sweetness and alcohol content. Grapes halfway between juice and wine, as it were. Of course, you will find particularly good Sturm at the numerous Viennese Heurigen.
In Vienna, people always look forward to the chestnuts, which are a traditional part of the food culture in the autumn and winter months in Austria’s capital. At the end of October, the first stalls appear on many street corners offering roasted chestnuts, lángos or assorted varieties of potato creations.
If your fingers get chilly and your toes soggy, it’s off to the nearest coffee house! Here you can warm up again with a Melange (an espresso with steamed milk, topped with a little foam) or a slice of cake, and experience the highly respected, discreet Viennese service.

Viennese Gemütlichkeit (literally, cosiness) meets Viennese music in the Schönbrunn Orangery in autumn and guarantees guests an unforgettable concert evening in a dream location. In the Orangery of Schönbrunn Palace, the most beautiful classical melodies from “Old Vienna” are played, for example by Johann Strauss or Hermann Leopoldi.
During the concert there is also a wine accompaniment and a drinks service with local wines and other beverages. You can literally taste the quintessential Viennese joie de vivre on your tongue here.

Where would the Austrians be without their dumplings? Sad, very sad, because the traditional specialities come in a variety of shapes, sizes and flavours! From sweet to salty, savoury or spicy, vegan or gluten-free – there is something for every foodie. But where should you go when you have a craving for dumplings?
This is exactly where the Knödelmanufaktur comes in, as it is Austria’s first dumpling establishment. And it is located – how could it be otherwise – in Vienna, more precisely in Josefstadt, the city’s eighth district. In addition to the classics like apricot and nougat dumplings, apple strudel, feta spinach or bolognese dumplings are also available. Especially in autumn, there are ingenious variations with pumpkin – which is why a visit to the Knödelmanufaktur is definitely worthwhile at this time of year.

If you don’t feel like going out for a long time on a stormy day, you can simply spend some relaxing time in a fully furnished CheckVIENNA apartment. The modern, well-equipped kitchen, for example, is perfect for preparing the food you bought at the Viennese markets. Maybe you can even whip up a pumpkin stew or two?
If none of this helps, the numerous delivery services in Vienna are just as excellent a choice. Here you can order not only typical Viennese schnitzel, but also vegetarian, Indian, Korean and, of course Asian, among others.
