Bathing lakes and ponds in and around Vienna
A jump into cool water is a great way to enjoy the summer in Vienna, not only for the Viennese, but also for all visitors to the city. However, you don’t necessarily have to go to one of the numerous outdoor swimming pools in the city of Vienna. Many bathing ponds and lakes also offer wonderful possibilities to relax and have fun.

This bathing facility in Vienna’s 22nd district is one of the most popular natural bathing spots for the Viennese. However, this is not particularly surprising as, in addition to a segregated bathing area and playground for children, there is also an area for dogs. Here, your four-legged friends are allowed to enjoy the refreshing water without a leash.
Due to its enormous popularity, it may prove quite difficult to find a shady place, but the sunbathing areas are large enough to guarantee each guest more than enough space. Just don’t forget your sunscreen and parasol!

If you are willing to take a trip by car or public transport, you will be rewarded with an idyllic bathing spot a little outside of Vienna. The Gerasdorf bathing pond, in Gerasdorf near Vienna, offers a well-maintained and spacious area. In addition to large open spaces, the many trees provide shady spots.
The entrance fees are not that cheap, but the whole experience is stress-free and relaxing. There is no jostling or fighting over places to lie.
Our tip: When the red flag is hoisted, the maximum number of bathers has been reached. So it’s best not to arrive too late.

The Wienerberg recreational area is also referred to as the green oasis of well-being in Favoriten. Here in Vienna’s 10th district, the Wienerberg pond is hidden behind reeds and nature. It is considered an insider tip on hot summer days, because, in addition to smaller sunbathing areas, you can also find some hidden, shady spots thanks to the many bushes.
There are also forest playgrounds as well as running and cycling paths. You can also play various sports, such as beach volleyball or football, without any problems. In addition, swimming is also allowed here for our furry, four-legged friends!

Many automatically associate Laxenburg with its famous castle and magnificent park, which promises particularly amazing Instagram pictures. Only a few know that the bathing pond there is an equally great destination for a day trip.
Especially on hot summer days, when hardly any delicious ice cream will help, the Laxenburg bathing pond is the perfect spot to while away a few hours. Sun worshippers are certain to get their money’s worth here.
Our tip: Convenient weekly and season tickets can be purchased at the town hall.

Dechantlacke

This idyllic bathing pond in the Upper Lobau is particularly popular with nudists, as it is surrounded by wild embankments and nature. Although nudism is not compulsory, wearing swimming trunks and bikinis is unusual here.
The water temperatures are often a little higher here, so people are happy to put up with the lack of facilities. The closest restaurants are about 10 minutes away. If you are also interested in the Danube Floodplain National Park and want to take a walk through the almost untouched floodplain landscape after jumping into the cool water of the Dechantlacke – which, by the way, Hundertwasser is said to have loved – you can get the necessary information at the National Park House Wien-Lobau.

And the perfect end to a beautiful day at one of these bathing ponds? Treat yourself to an exotic cocktail or a visit to the numerous Schanigärten in Vienna.
