Taborstraße as Vienna’s culinary mile
Taborstraße in Vienna’s Leopoldstadt district is becoming increasingly popular with so-called “foodies”, people who value good food as well as a hip ambience. The street in the heart of Vienna’s second district stretches from the Donaukanal (Danube Canal) to the Karmeliterplatz near the Augarten and finally to Nordbahnstraße. Above all, the relatively short part between Schwedenplatz and Negerlegasse is particularly interesting from a culinary point of view.
Beginning at the Donaukanal (Danube Canal): Die Blumenwiese

As far as leisure activities are concerned, for a long time now, the Danube Canal has enjoyed great popularity, especially in the warmer months. But also in terms of culinary delights, there is something for every taste. In this respect, “Die Blumenwiese” at the Donaukanal is still quite new.
Last year, a relatively large restaurant opened here directly under, or to be more precise, next to, the Schwedenbrücke. The offer ranges from drinks, to snacks, to deckchairs – and a wonderful, small stand from the popular “Eis-Greissler” empire opened its doors earlier this year.

Recently, the restaurant “Spelunke” has become a fixed hotspot on Taborstraße. During the day, people from the surrounding offices, for example from the News Tower or the start-up hub weXelerate, go here for lunch. “Spelunke” invites you to “indulge in gluttony” and you should definitely not miss out on one of their great desserts.
In addition, the restaurant has a pretty outdoor eating area directly on Taborstraße. Especially the interior design of the Spelunke is worth mentioning: a spacious bar, vinyl records on the walls, trendy Hanseatic visuals that make the dark restaurant brighter than it actually is, as well as comfortable and beautiful leather furniture, which simply cry out to you to take a seat. In the evenings, you can enjoy DJ sound and special cocktails.

Directly on Taborstraße, you will find the entrance to weXelerate, one of the largest start-up hubs in Vienna, probably even in Austria. Young entrepreneurs with innovative and creative business ideas hang out here.
The small café in weXelerate, which is operated by the Espresso Mobil, is also creative. The restaurant is super trendy and the furnishings are very modern. Besides sweet dishes, it also offers a good selection of different types of coffee. Through the glass, you can watch the hustle and bustle on Taborstraße as well as in weXelerate itself.

Bao buns are small yeast puff pastries, which are offered with various fillings. So to speak the Taiwanese form of burgers. And this is exactly what you can find in Taborstraße at “Figar Bao Buns”.
The mini burgers are prepared with meat or vegetarian with tofu and we would advise you to always order two. This restaurant is also modern and trendy, with its furnishings reduced to the essentials. In the warm weeks of the year, you can also eat your Bao buns in the small garden.

The founders of the Veganista ice-cream parlours are the shooting stars of the Viennese ice-cream heaven. One branch is now even located in Los Angeles. But of course you don’t have to travel that far to enjoy an ice-cream cone without animal products.
Branch number four is located directly on Taborstraße. Here, queues of ice-cream fans can form. But it is still worth waiting anyway as, besides the popular ice-cream sandwiches, there are also some unusual flavours, such as basil, mandarin or blueberry-lavender.
