In Vienna, there are many wonderful and unusual places which are perfect for a photo on Instagram.
Already last year in our blog, we presented a few great places in Vienna which should not be lacking in any Instagram feed. Places which simply have to be photographed for Instagram! Due to the large number of beautiful spots in Vienna which are suitable for an Instagram posting, we decided to add some more recommendations for you here.
Nussberg in Döbling

The Nussberg in Vienna could be considered as the “local” mountain of the Viennese. It can easily be reached by public transport and is simply a perfect location for walks in the middle of the Viennese vineyards. And, if you feel in need of some refreshment, for example, an “Achterl” (literally one-eighth, referring to 125ml of wine) or bread with “Liptauer” (a traditional spicy cheese spread) or even a little rest, you can choose from one of the many “Buschenschanken” (wine taverns) on Nussberg. “Mayer am Nussberg” as well as “Buschenschank Wieninger” are both well worth a visit. After an easy walk up Nussberg, you will be rewarded with a unique panoramic view of Vienna. There are only a few places where you will have such an impressive view of the Danube and the Danube metropolis. A photo from this vantage point simply has to be included on Instagram!
The Ferris Wheel in the Prater without any reflections

For centuries, the Prater in Vienna has been a recreational area for the Viennese but it is home to much more than just the world famous Ferris Wheel. Located somewhat more centrally, namely at the main square in the Prater, you will discover the Blumenrad (Flower Wheel). Although it is not as big, high, old or as impressive as the Riesenrad, it does offer as super a view of Vienna. One advantage the Flower Wheel has over its „big brother“ are its open cabins, which you can turn yourself. This means that, when you are taking photos from here, you can fully concentrate on the image you wish to capture without having to worry about any possible reflections in glass. In the evenings, the conditions are perfect for a photo shooting – the lights in Vienna go on and the whole city shines in a blaze of lights. Because the cabins are open, you can also take photos with a flash, with no reflections to spoil your shot.
Vienna‘s most modern church from an architectural perspective

Not only are views of the city the subject of perfect Instagram photos. There are some very impressive buildings in Vienna, which also deserve pride of place on your Instagram feed. We have mentioned the Hofburg (Imperial Palace) and Schönbrunn Palace elsewhere. Vienna is also a city of churches. St. Stephan’s Cathedral and the Church of St. Karl are world famous and, as such, popular photo images. However, if you would like something a little more unusual and modern, you should visit the Wotruba Church. Built by the architect, Fritz Gerhard Mayr, in the 1970s, this imposing building is located in Mauer in the city’s 23rd district (Liesing). The architectural style, brutalism, is the key here. This Church is made of concrete.
The tallest and most modern building in Austria

The DC Tower on the Danube plateau in the city’s 22nd district, Donaustadt, is not only the tallest building in Austria but also characterises the contemporary urban landscape of Vienna. There are only a few places at a higher altitude from which you cannot see this imposing building. Since 2014, the skyscraper from architect, Dominique Perrault, has towered over Vienna‘s Danube City, right next to the Reichsbrücke. Due to its unusual facade, which is reminiscent of the Danube and its flowing water, the DC Tower is the perfect subject for a photo from all angles. It simply has to be included in the Instagram feed of any visitor to Vienna. It is best if you go there by underground (the red line, no. 1) from the city centre to the Neue Donau station. Vienna’s Danube Island is the ideal place – both day or night – to take a photo of the highest building in Vienna. In the DC Tower itself, there is a bar and a restaurant with an epic view of the city.
