Public Viewing in Vienna

Watch the FIFA World Cup 2018 together – at a public viewing location in Vienna

All over the world, football fans have had to wait four years until kick off. This year, the FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia. As you may know, Austria failed to qualify for this mega event but this has not in any way dampened the euphoria surrounding the “round leather ball” and the World Cup. As has been the case in the past for similar events, this time too there are once again various locations which offer the possibility to watch the matches with like-minded people and to celebrate together.

Even without the football mega event, the Strandbar Herrmann is a highlight in Vienna in summer
. Conveniently and centrally located in Vienna’s city centre, directly on the Danube Canal, at the Strandbar Herrmann you can turn summer nights into day. For some years now, both European Cup and World Cup games have been broadcast live – a great opportunity to celebrate with fellow football fans – with no entrance fee. But if you would like to lie back and watch the games on one of the comfortable loungers in front of the video wall, be sure to get there early. The Strandbar Herrmann is normally more than well frequented.

The Stiegl-Ambulanz is particularly popular with students, which is hardly surprising considering its location directly on the University campus of the University of Vienna. The venue boasts a very large outdoor area for guests, which, during the World Cup, is enlarged and fitted with numerous screens to enable guests to watch all games live. And even in the case of bad weather, there is more than enough space indoors for football fans who want to cheer on their team.

An entire quarter invites you to watch the World Cup games

Ever since public viewing began, football fans have been able to watch games in Vienna’s WUK – the abbreviation for Werkstätten- und Kulturhaus (“Workshop and Culture House”) in the city’s ninth district. WUK are specialists in the public viewing of major football events and this is evidenced over the entire WUK grounds. The venue is located centrally in Währing and it can be easily reached by public transport. The games are also broadcast indoors which is a great advantage if it gets too hot or if it starts to rain. All the World Cup games will be shown on three large screens as well as on eight smaller screens. This means that everyone should be able to have a good view of the screens and the games here.

During the European or World Cups, the Flex on the Danube Canal is a must for football fans. Near Schottenring, all games will be broadcast live. Flex is one of the best known nightclubs in Austria and its reputation extends beyond national borders. Party animals meet here to dance the night away and to have fun. These events will also take place during the World Cup. Perfect for anyone who wants to continue partying after the games. Live broadcasts of the games can be watched on a large screen or on a screen in the lower outdoor area or on the many smaller screens on the rooftop terrace.

Watching football alone is pretty boring! Go along to one of the public viewing locations and cheer the teams on with other fans.
