Vienna’s Hiking Paths – Part 2

Hiking in Vienna on the numerous city hiking paths

The same applies to these hikes: the starting points of the well-signposted hiking paths are easily accessible by public transport and offer plenty of variety during the walk thanks to many vantage points, refreshment stops and playgrounds. Here we have the 2nd part of our brief overview of the most beautiful hiking paths in Vienna for you!

The city hiking path 2 leads you through one of the most traditional hiking areas of Austria’s capital and offers not only wonderful views of the vineyards of the 19th district, but also six eating establishments, such as the Häuserl am Roan, the Häuserl am Stoan or the Häuserl am Himmel on the hiking route. Plan a break and even enjoy some impressive views over Vienna from the terraces of these restaurants.

The city hiking path no. 3 leads you from the delightful Neuwaldegg through the Vienna Woods to Hameau, an approximately 460 m high hill in Hernals, the 17th district of Vienna. Its hill is also the highest point of Neuwaldegg and lies on the border with Klosterneuburg in Lower Austria. After the hike, we recommend a stop at one of the many charming wine taverns (Heurigen) in Dornbach, Neuwaldegg or Neustift.

Hiking Path 3
Starting point: last stop of tram line no. 43 (Neuwaldegg)
Length: 10.5 km

Absolute variety is offered by the city hiking path 7, which has its starting point in the south of Vienna and leads past the Horrstadtion via the Bohemian Prater to the Oberlaa Spa Park and the Per-Albin-Hansson-Strasse. 15 km in length, this circular hiking path is also one of the longer city hiking paths in Vienna.

Hiking Path 7

The city hiking path 10 leads you through an area of Vienna’s 22nd district that is rather less frequented by hikers, past the Paxteichen in the Norbert Scheed forest, the Rautenweg landfill and the Paischwerwasser, a pretty pond not far from the Breitenlee cemetery. This route may be rather short but offers wonderful landscape, with fields and meadows. In Breitenlee, you can have a break at one of the many classic wine taverns to enjoy some Viennese delicacies.

Hiking Path 10
Starting point: bus lines 24A and 85A – stop Breitenlee Friedhof
Length: 7 km

Are you lacking the necessary motivation for a hike? The Vienna Hiking Pass, which is free of charge, can help you. For every successfully completed hiking path, you receive a stamp at one of the official stamp stations. This hiking pass is a great way to motivate children in particular to exercise in the countryside – making hiking a pleasure for young and old alike!

Avid hikers who collect stamps are rewarded with hiking pins – a silver pin for three stamps, a gold pin for seven stamps and a platinum pin awaits hikers who have completed all the hikes. You can pick up the hiking pins free of charge at Vienna City Hall (City Information) when you present your hiking pass. The hiking pass is available at the city information office or can be downloaded online.
